Index

[station]

The Index station, early 1900's. The main line goes left toward Mohawk, the track to the left going to Cooperstown. A local resident recalls playing around this station as a child. A favorite past-time of local children was taking a hand car out on the main line. One hopes by that time traffic was light on the line! This station is no longer in existence.

[station]

The Index station from another angle. The buildings in the background are part of the factory complex that had thrived in Index since the middle of the 19th Century.

[bridge]
The bridge just south of the Index station, circa 1910. While the bridge itself was scrapped in the early 40's, the abutments still stand. The factory building to the right is now gone, but the one to the left is still existant.

Cooperstown

[station]

Car 51 outside the original station on Main Street in Cooperstown, early 1900's. The tracks continued on down Main Street to Pioneer Street (to the left.) Orginally it was planned to run the trolley down to the lakefront.

[station]

The station as it appears today. Trolley traffic along Main Street was disliked by local residents, and the trackage was abandoned in 1917.

[station]

As best I can determine, this building served as the Cooperstown station on the SNY after 1917. It is on Main Street, just off Chestnut.

Fly Creek

[station]

The Fly Creek station of the SNY is now a lawyers office.

[station]

Another shot of the station. The right of way passed to the left of the building. This view looks north toward Mohawk.

[station]

The Fly Creek station sign. Certainly the owner has done an excellent job of restoring this building!

Oaksville

[station]

The Oaksville station, small and easily moved, has drifted around Oaksville for years, until it was acquired by the Leatherstocking Railway Historical Society. They moved it to Milford in 1998 and are renovating it to act as the station for their miniature rail ride around Wilber Park in Milford. In the background is the Milford Station on the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad.

[station]

Another shot of the station. Note the "narrow gauge" tracks in front of the station. Since these pictures were taken, the station has received a new roof and a fresh coat of paint.

Schuyler Lake

[station]

The station in Schuyler Lake in its heyday. Passengers and luggage wait to board a trolley.

[station]

Today, the Schuyler Lake station is a little the worse for wear, but pretty much intact. Beware of owners!

Richfield Springs

[station]

The Richfield Springs station no longer exists, but up until recently the freight station in Richfield Springs was still there. It has since been torn down

Jordanville

[station]

The Jordanville Station, early 1900's. I understand this is still in existance, though much changed.

Henderson

Mohawk

[station]

Southern New York station at Frankfort, early 1900's.

Herkimer

[station]

Southern New York station in Herkimer, early 1900's. From here the cars ran along the NY Central tracks to Utica.
